Trader Joe's: Supported Employment a Success
Letter from parent submitted with Governor's Award Nomination:
My son Robert Aften Wiese has had a long and successful career working with Trader Joe's. Starting in Federal Way, Washington and in 2011 moving to Spokane and eventually working here. Robbie was enrolled in the Artisans who provided job support not long thereafter and the success has been very good meeting his work goals and excelling as a valued employee. Along with help from the staff there the staff at Artisans, Darlene Butler, in particular worked hard to advance his success. Each review period Robbie has to meet goals, is given new challenges, and has been rewarded many times over for his good humor, nature, and eagerness to please. Robbie is truly loved and appreciated by the staff at Artisans and at Trader Joe's. Being a single father and raising Robbie by instilling within him skills for success in my limited way has helped, but with the expertise and goal oriented support he received from Artisans, he has broadened his personal vision beyond my imagination and both Robbie and I are grateful for their help. Thank you again for considering Robbie and Trader Joe's for this most important award. I know you will be proud of Robbie, Darlene, and Trader Joe's as an example of the support the "differently abled" community in Spokane can expect the services that are so desperately needed. - Robert Wiese |
